Adoption of children from Latvia by foreigners is unacceptable - human rights defenders

Representatives of the Alternative Alliance for the Care of Children of Latvia oppose the possibility of foreigners adopting Latvian children. This is written by Tvnet. Lv with reference to a letter addressed to the Sejm (Parliament) Commission on Public Affairs and Human Rights, Prime Minister of Latvia Krishyanis Karinshu and Minister of Welfare Ramona Petravić. The letter states that one of the sites revealed information when an agency from the USA offers to re-adapt children from Latvia. The decision of the Latvian authorities to adopt children by a particular family is final cannot be reviewed, the letter says. Children cannot be transferred to other families in the future. This practice is totally unacceptable. Human rights defenders believe that in the event of the transfer of already adopted children to other hands, minors experience alienation and a sense of abandonment. According to the news agency, on March 4, 2020, the Commission of the Seimas of Latvia on Public Affairs and Human Rights conceptually supported the prohibition or introduction of a moratorium on the adoption of children by foreigners, until the new rules for adaptation are worked out.
