The Head of WHO called for the use of protective masks only to those who need them
The recommendation to wear medical masks only to those who really need them was made by the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adane Gebreyesus, in a briefing in Geneva on 6 April. He explained that WHO experts are concerned that excessive and improper use of protective health masks by large segments of the population could lead to their shortage for people who actually need them. Gebreyesus clarified that WHO recommends wearing masks to sick people and those who care for patients, including at home. At the same time, the head of WHO recalled that the mask should be worn safely and properly. Earlier, the news agency reported on the introduction by the Government of the Russian Federation of restrictions on the wholesale and retail sale of medical masks.
