In Chinese Chongqing, more than 210 thousand people suffered from heavy rains

More than 210 thousand people have been affected by heavy rains in the city of central subordination to Chongqing in southwestern China since June 26, Xinhua News Agency reported June 29. Municipal hydrologists reported that heavy showers hit some areas of the city on June 28 and 29, leading to the spill of several rivers in the city. The water level in these rivers has since fallen below a dangerous level. According to data at 10:00 local time on June 29, a total of 267 villages in 25 districts and counties of Chongqing covered the showers, disrupting the lives of 218,953 people. More than 4,700 people were relocated to a safe place. Showers damaged almost 8,600 hectares of grain, washed out 370 houses and damaged another 3,490 houses. Direct economic damage amounted to 370 million yuan (about $52.29 million).
