The Kremlin reacted to Japan's discontent over exploration
Russia has the right to conduct any research on its territory, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on June 26, commenting on Japan's dissatisfaction with geological exploration work near the southern Kuril Islands. In this case, Russia has an absolutely sovereign right on its territory to carry out any type of research, the Kremlin representative emphasized. According to the news agency, earlier the Japanese government sent a protest to Russia over geological exploration in the southern part of the Sea of Okhotsk. Work was carried out, including in the area of the islands of Kunashir, Shikotan, Iturup and Habomai, which in Japan are called northern territories.
